Stuff You Should Definitely Check Out!

Okay, so has anyone been watching the new Netflix series "Orange is the New Black?" Because oh my gosh it is FANTABULOUS.

I started watching it a couple of days ago (all episodes were released on Netflix only this past Thursday) and I cannot get enough of it. It's created by Jenji Kohan who is also the mastermind behind "Weeds" (quite possibly my favorite show). The acting is great, the concept is unique, and the dialogue and plot are both incredible. The show is set in a woman's prison, and follows a young woman named Piper who's past mistakes have landed her in the federal penitentiary. Every episode you learn about one of her fellow inmates and it's both comical and heartbreaking. I've found it incredibly inspiring from a writing standpoint, and if you have access to Netflix I definitely recommend checking this show out!

Today must be recommendation day because I also want to share some music. Last night I went to a house concert (basically an outdoor party with food, alcohol, and incredible music). The two musicians were Kelly Jones and Melanie Penn (both solo artists) and it was such a great show. They each have very unique sounds, but the overall feel of the concert was whimsical, sensual, and emotive. Every song was brimming with emotion and both artists have amazing voices and musical skills. Check them out on ITunes--both Kelly and Melanie have new albums coming out soon!

As for my day so far, it's been relatively low key. I slept in, went for a hike in Runyon, talked to the folks on the phone, wrote some poetry, ate some vegetables, and watched TV with Louie. That's a pretty good Sunday as far as I'm concerned!

XOXO!
