Best and Worst of LA

>> Thursday, July 11, 2013

After two and a half weeks of living in Hollywood, I thought I’d sum up, in my opinion, the best and worse things thus far about living here.

Let’s start with the negative (let’s just get it out of the way):

  • ·      The traffic is awful.  Anyone who’s ever ridden in a car with me knows that 1) I am not the best driver and 2) I have road rage.  I’m not a temperamental person but for some reason people doing stupid stuff while driving makes me furious and results in me yelling at my steering wheel and working myself into a tizzy.  And traffic in LA is SLOW.  ALL DAY EVERY DAY.  And I’m pretty sure everyone has road rage so it’s just one big angry mess of people driving around and honking and flipping each other off.  It stresses me out.

Aaaand that’s it.  Whew.  There are a lot of negatives to living here huh?
Now for the good stuff!

  • ·      The people!  So far everybody I’ve met has been awesome.  Everyone is unique and intent on being themselves.  It’s really refreshing.  Sure, there are some rude people and some pretentious people, but seriously, I’ve yet to have a negative run-in with anyone.
  • ·      The creativity!  This city overflows with art and big dreams and people trying to achieve their goals of being writers, musicians, photographers, actors, etc.  It’s the first time I’ve truly felt at home in a city and it’s incredible being part of a creative-minded city!
  • ·      The weather here is fabulous.  Okay, well the past two days it’s been humid and overcast, but otherwise it’s pretty awesome.  Most days have been sunny and in the eighties; at night it drops into the low seventies/high sixties.  What this means?  Almost any time of day is a good time to go for a run.  You can wear short shorts and a tank top during the day and then put on a cute sweater at night.  The dryness means my hair doesn’t look like a frizzy mess of brambles.
  • ·      There’s an abundance of coffee shops, which means an abundance of coffee.  Enough said.
  • ·      Being close to the coast means fresh seafood and the best sushi.
  • ·      Along with being a creative city, LA is also a very open-minded city.  It’s fantastic looking around and seeing such a wide array of people with different preferences, opinions, styles, ideas, etc.  Anyone and everyone is welcome.  I’ve always been proud of who I am but being here makes it all the easier to feel good about yourself and embrace every little quirk that makes you special.
  • ·      Shopping.  Shopping shopping shopping.
  • ·      And of course, being here means I get to be with my fabulous BF and our adorable dog.  I’ve got a great little family in LA and every day is a wonderful adventure.

I could go on and on about how great it is living here.  But I think you get the idea.  So if I haven’t already convinced you, come out and visit me!

XOXO.
